Embarking on a ‘Path to Clean’

Developing a dynamic communications plan and securing media coverage to promote a powerful commitment to reducing emissions.

In Spring 2021, Vault was tapped by PECO, Pennsylvania’s largest electric and natural gas delivery company, to help develop the company’s overarching emissions reduction plan. While the operational plan was being built, Vault worked alongside the PECO Communications team to develop a strategic communications plan concurrently.

PECO’s parent company, Exelon, announced the Path to Clean commitment of its collective utilities in August 2021. The goal: to cut operations-driven emissions in half by 2030, and to achieve net-zero operations-driven emissions by 2050. Vault quickly got to work, leveraging existing clean energy events and programs to spread awareness of PECO’s Path to Clean locally in Philadelphia.

Capabilities

Crafting a strong framework for messaging.

By conducting stakeholder interviews and gathering key information, Vault helped to identify core storytelling pillars to underpin PECO’s Path to Clean and highlight the company’s support for its customers and communities.

Eventually, these messages transitioned into a communications plan focused on announcing, introducing, and sustaining PECO’s Path to Clean initiatives.

Amplifying the message across the region.

To create a steady drumbeat of buzz, Vault tied media relations efforts to the company’s many sustainability events and initiatives. The team helped secure Path to Clean coverage in tandem with the launch of a new electric vehicle (EV) charging rebate program, participation in Earth Hour, increased investment in local tree planting and education, and other relevant efforts.

To generate further awareness, Vault secured a 3-minute dedicated segment with NBC10, in which PECO’s Senior Vice President of Governmental, Regulatory & External Affairs speaks to the company’s Path to Clean journey and commitment.

Creating content for ongoing engagement.

The Vault team designed a visual identity for PECO’s Path to Clean and helped launch a new webpage to clearly outline the company’s clean energy plan. Vault developed additional internal and external-facing materials, including flyers, digital ads, Microsoft Teams backgrounds, and social posts.

Thought leadership and content development are ongoing tactics that keep Path to Clean at the forefront of conversation. Vault is consistently weaving Path to Clean into PECO messaging through event remarks and LinkedIn articles on behalf of the company’s senior leaders, and through articles about clean energy initiatives on the PECO Connection blog.

Let’s work together.

And by work, we mean exceed your expectations every step of the way.
