For the second consecutive year, Vault Communications participated in the U.S. Department of Labor’s YouthRules! Program at Jules E. Mastbaum Area Vocational Technical School in Philadelphia as an advisor on the topic of public service announcements (PSAs). YouthRules! was created by the U.S. Department of Labor in 2002 to increase public awareness about federal and state rules concerning young workers. YouthRules! participants work to promote positive and safe work environments for America’s young adults.
Kate Shields, Vice President and Managing Partner at Vault, visited YouthRules! Ambassadors at Mastbaum to discuss the history of PSAs in the United States, beginning with the War Advertising Council in the early 1940s. Shields also shared many examples of PSAs, including award-winning PSAs created by Vault, who has taken home 1st place for eight consecutive years in the PSA category at the Philadelphia Public Relations Society of America's annual Pepperpot Awards competition. Shields also gave the students the very first preview of a new radio public service announcement featuring Ryan Howard to support Verizon's Cybersafe Philly program (www.cybersafephilly.com).
The YouthRules! students will create a PSA about the importance of safe & rewarding work environments, prior to their graduation from the program in late May 2011. “Vault is proud of our affiliation with the YouthRules program and the exceptional students who will embark upon their own PSA project for the U.S. Department of Labor,” said Shields.”
