What's Inside the Vault Fridge: An Interview

Last October, Vault was ranked one of the Philadelphia area’s best places to work by The Philadelphia Business Journal, recognized for the comprehensive suite of benefits it provides its employees. Among those perks: a fully stocked kitchen. For those curious about what’s cooking at the Vault, here’s a glimpse inside our kitchen from “Vaultinistas” Lori Orr and Brittany Harmon, who ensure that no one here goes hungry.

Office Manager Lori Orr and Account Coordinator Brittany Harmon explain their kitchen kapers.

Erin: Lori and Brittany, tell me about your roles in keeping the Vault fridge so well maintained and stocked.
Lori: Every Friday, I go through our current inventory, figure out what to purchase and then order the groceries online.
Brittany: I’m very organized and a neat freak at heart. When I joined the Vault last September, I happily took on an expanded role to keep the fridge clean.

Erin: That's a job for a brave woman.

Erin: What are the main staples you order?
Lori: It gets pretty rhythmic and we know what goes quick. We always have an ample supply of turkey, bread, chips, salsa, milk, cream for coffee, peanut butter, Oreos and Goldfish.
Brittany: The Vaultinistas are also big “cheese heads.” We keep a variety of Alouette Soft Spreadable Cheeses in stock. Shameless client mention.

Erin: Any guilty pleasures?
Lori: Yes … chocolate! And, of course, anything Tastykake!

Erin: Do either of you receive any special requests on what to order?
Lori: I wouldn’t say we receive any special requests; however, we do make special considerations. A couple of team members have food allergies, so we stopped ordering nuts and shellfish. I guess you could consider that a "special request," i.e. I'd like to "specially request" that I don't go into anaphylactic shock in my workplace.

Erin: It looks like the Vaultinistas stay well hydrated. What types of drinks are most popular?
Brittany: The ladies of the Vault love their caffeine. Coffee, soda and green tea are the most popular. We also keep an ample supply of bottled water on hand for our guests and clients.

Erin: Don't think I didn't notice the beer in the fridge ... what’s that all about?
Lori: We save those for bad Tuesdays, and of course, when we host our clients. Last fall, we treated one of our clients to a round of Quizzo (live trivia game). It proved to be such a fun experience that we are planning to invite all of our clients to join in the fun. The party is planned for this spring … stay tuned for details!
