The Power of Infographics

We’ve all seen them. We’ve all commented on how “cool” they are. And we’ve all thought about creating one as a better way to communicate those hard to understand statistics to our clients.

They’re infographics.

And they’ve recently reemerged as one of the most popular ways to visually represent data or knowledge in clear, concise and effective manner.

Let’s begin with some history. Infographics gained their popularity in the early 1990s when news organizations began emphasizing visual communication. In fact, surveys showed that people had short attention spans and were spending less time reading written news, and as a result, responded better to visuals. It was then that infographics became a new and alternative way to tell a story.

Through the years, technology has evolved and so has the infographic. Social networks are integrating infographics into their sites and mobile apps as an easier way for users to retain information. Organizations are also using infographics to portray their financial growth and company history. And individuals, like myself, are beginning to see the true value of these “photos.”

Below I present to you, the power of the infographic. As an avid user of social media, I’m constantly wondering what happens on the web each and every day. With this infographic, I’m quickly able to understand. Sure, I could spend hours on the Internet researching this data, but why when it’s all conveniently portrayed in this one graphic? In just about 60 seconds, I was able to learn what happens on the web in 60 seconds. What a beautiful thing!
