After watching a tape of One Flock's debut performance, I knew this group was extraordinary. I soon met with Ellen Wedemeyer, Choir Director and Assistant Special Education Superintendent for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, to learn more. My role quickly evolved from PR pro to talent agent, booking this talented act across the region.
I learned that the choir is made up of 270 musically motivated students from special education schools throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. I learned that the choir members range in age from four-and-a-half to twenty-one years old. I learned about their struggles. Some One Flock members are blind. Some are deaf. Others are confined to wheelchairs, and some have autism and Down syndrome diagnoses.
I learned that the choir members share a common bond in their love of music and performing for a crowd. But, most importantly, I learned that these children are singing with a purpose. They are singing to save their schools, which are at risk of closing due to decreased funding.
Inspired? I thought you might be. Come on out and support One Flock by attending one of their upcoming performances (2008 schedule below). Or, if you're interested in booking One Flock for an upcoming event or special occasion, please contact me at (610) 455-2748.
