Been leaning over the Palmer Room table for the last three hours delicately wrapping ultra-luxe holiday cards in shimmery tissue paper and ribbon for a client press kit. My back aches, my hands are covered in glitter, and I'm loving my job.
I'm the product of a creative mom who taught me to sew, armed me with a hot glue gun before the age of 10, and encouraged me to start selling my bead jewelry to local children's clothing boutiques when I was in the 3rd grade. Neither of us would have ever guessed that those genes would serve me so well in my career. With no further ado, my top 5 craftiest PR moments:
1) Covering a large Fed Ex box with pieces of a green plastic doormat and Polly Pocket figures to configure my "Saturday in the Park" centerpiece for our holiday party at the Saturday Club in Wayne, PA. Jess will back me up--it was pretty cool.
2) Sewing a hem to 15 yards of purple velour to make a drape for the side of a Septa bus, to be used in a reveal by elementary students at a press conference. Aside from being 5'3", it's the closest I've ever come to feeling like Prince.
3) Affixing red iron-on letters to the Soupy Island camp flag, which was later signed by the local dignitaries and considered for inclusion in the Campbell Soup corporate lobby. That's right--me and Andy Warhol.
4) Working my MacGyver skills to build a self-contained media kit bonanza for the Towering Termite Tour: a talking box of candy, photo CD, media alert and two hologram press passes, tied in a bow.
5) Celebrating the Krimpet's 80th birthday on a Sunday night in an un-airconditioned office, piling teeny little butterscotch snackcakes one on top of the other, using coffee stirrers to stabilize the melting towers as we wrapped them in cellophane and ribbon. When Bill Parcells gives your client a shout out on Monday Night Football, you know it was all worth it.
