Building Futures with Saint-Gobain and YouthBuild USA

If you’ve ever been to the Denver International Airport, the Grand Canyon Skywalk or the new Dallas Cowboys stadium (for an Eagles game, of course!), chances are, you’ve witnessed the work of our client, Saint-Gobain, first-hand. As the world's largest building materials company and a global leader in the production of high-performance materials and glass containers, Saint-Gobain’s architectural fabric composes the rooftops of the stadium and airport -- and its high strength glass at the Skywalk gives visitors clear views of the Grand Canyon in virtually every direction.

Last year, we had the great fortune to begin working with Saint-Gobain North America (and its subsidiary CertainTeed) in providing media relations and event management surrounding the launch of a three-year partnership with YouthBuild USA. The partnership offers YouthBuild students the opportunity to build green, energy-efficient and healthy homes in their neighborhoods, gain green job skills and industry-recognized credentials, and develop environmentally focused leadership skills. The alliance will also support green home renovation projects in three other communities where Saint-Gobain has business operations, including: YouthBuild Philadelphia Charter School (Philadelphia, Pa.), YouthBuild Akron Summit (Akron, Ohio) and YouthBuild Schenectady (Schenectady, N.Y.).

A few weeks ago, we supported the kick-off of Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed’s partnership with Worcester (Mass.) YouthBuild. The event was a true celebration and display of resilience from the students, who endured the loss of their previous project after it burnt to the ground in a four-alarm fire. Thanks to the help of our client, as well as community leaders in Worcester, an alternate location was secured allowing the students to continue their green education and job training program.

Blessed with a sunshine-filled day, the event was a huge success and attended by Mayor of Worcester Joseph O’Brien, Councilor Barbara Haller, Worcester YouthBuild students and Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed employees. After the presentation of a $100,000 grant to Worcester YouthBuild from Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed, event attendees spent the afternoon participating in service projects at the home – even the Mayor swung a hammer in support of the project! For a full recap, check out Saint-Gobain, CertainTeed and YouthBuild USA’s “Building Our Future Together” blog.

We look forward to working with Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed soon on its partnership launches in Akron, Ohio, and Schenectady, New York. Stay tuned!
