A Week In the Life of Vault PR Account Coordinators...

One of our (many) favorite things about our roles as Account Coordinators at the Vault is that no two days are the same. Heck, no two hours are the same. Our jobs have us doing a little bit of everything – and sometimes a lot of everything! Some days, we find ourselves in the midst of a project and we just have to stop and think, “I can’t believe I’m getting paid to [insert random, ridiculously fun or absurd task here]!”

Take this past week as an example:

• Monday was a pretty boring, typical day. You know, nothing out of the ordinary…Just spent the morning chatting it up with Al Roker during our visit to “The Today Show” with our client Tastykake. Yawn.

Okay, we didn’t think you’d buy that. Truth is, we were STOKED to visit “The Today Show” as they filmed right here in Philadelphia. And we were even more stoked to meet Al Roker.

The day was a bit surreal. At one point we were discussing the pros and cons of Segways with Al Roker while nearby, Ben Franklin (an ever-present figure on Independence Mall) and NBC10 weatherman Bill Henley posed for a photo with our Tastykake mascot, Kirbee the Krimpet.

• On Tuesday we were busy stuffing boxes full of t-shirts to send to hundreds of Catholic School students involved in the FACE Program in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The project quickly overtook our office and we found ourselves surrounded by boxes, t-shirts and chocolate. (Okay, okay, so the chocolate had nothing to do with the project, but a girl’s gotta eat!)

• Our day Thursday was another busy one. It consisted of shredding tons of blue and white paper and hitting up the dollar store to buy party gifts including gold coins and fake jewelry to stuff into pirate ship shaped piñatas. Now I know you’re thinking Vault must be getting ready for another one of their now world famous parties – apparently a pirate themed one. Sadly the piñatas weren’t for a party, but instead were for our client Airgas.

Yes, the brilliant women of the Vault discovered that September 19th is “International Talk Like a Pirate Day.” What a perfect opportunity to grab the media’s attention and promote our client, since Airgas’ New York Stock Exchange symbol is ARG, or “ARG!” if you’re a pirate!

• Friday we participated in what are now legendary “DJ Drops” – where we visit local radio DJ’s and television reporters with our client’s product. This drop was for the re-launch of the Tastykake cookie bars. And as we well know (having sampled all the flavors) these cookie bars are delicious!
The day began early. Really early. 6:15 am to be exact.

Out first stop: coffee (can you blame us?). Next stop: the news stations! Since it is sometimes difficult to get in to visit our friends – the local DJ’s and reporters – we have found it always helps to have a few extra Tastykakes for bribing hungry security guards (or angry landlords who don’t like it when we use their dumpsters….but that’s another story!)

Even with our trusty Tastykakes, we don’t always get it into the stations.

We usually finish the DJ Drops around 8:00 am, just in time to begin another exciting day at the Vault!

• Saturday. You may be thinking, Vault works on Saturdays?? Well, when a client is in need, we can’t turn down the opportunity. Plus, who wouldn’t want to spend a Saturday afternoon with 250 energetic high school students cheering on the Philadelphia Phillies?

The day started early in order to prepare Cardinal O’Hara High School to be the training grounds for the 2008 Fostering Awareness of Catholic Education (FACE) Retreat. Our goal was to train 250 bright Catholic high school students to be the FACE of Catholic education. If only we didn’t still look like high school students ourselves!

As a reward for spending their Saturday at school, we took the students to a Phillies game that evening. But this was no ordinary Phillies game….this was the game in which the Phillies could clinch the NL East Division Title. The Phillies did not let us down – they clinched the title and we were there for the celebration!

And with the Phillies clinching the title, it was the perfect way to end another whirlwind week at Vault. While we never know what the next day will bring, we can usually count on it to be challenging, exciting, and even (gasp!) fun. After a week like that, who wouldn’t love working at the Vault?!
